Ansbach Elementary Celebrates Month of the Military Child

ANSBACH, Germany – Ansbach Elementary School concluded a full month of activities in April honoring the Month of the Military Child (MOMC), recognizing the resilience and sacrifices of military-connected students and civilians who serve the military community at USAG Ansbach.

Throughout the month, Ansbach Elementary students, staff, families, and community partners participated in weekly events designed to celebrate and support military children. Activities included a MOMC dance, fun run, spirit week, weekly Purple Up Days, ice cream for all students, and a closing Clap Out event. The celebration took place on the Ansbach Elementary campus and was supported by key partners from the school and installation community.

The Ansbach Elementary PTSA sponsored the Month of the Military Child dance, providing students an opportunity to come together in a fun, supportive environment. USAG Ansbach MWR–Child & Youth Services sponsored the Fun Run, promoting physical fitness and school spirit. As part of the event, MWR–CYS provided every student with a purple MOMC shirt to proudly wear in support of military-connected children.

For the second year in a row, Zavier R., now a fourth-grade student, finished the Fun Run in first place, earning recognition for his outstanding effort and determination.

“The Month of the Military Child gives us a chance to intentionally recognize the strength and adaptability our students show every day,” said Patrice Powdar, Principal of Ansbach Elementary School. “Our students handle challenges that many children never experience, and they deserve to be celebrated.”

Students also shared what the month meant to them.

“I liked wearing purple and running the race because it showed that we are all together as military kids,” said Johnathan C, fourth-grade student.

The month concluded with a powerful “Clap Out,” during which parents, faculty, and community members lined the walkways to applaud students as they exited the building. The event honored not only military children, but also civilians who serve and support military families.

“As a parent, it meant a lot to see the entire community come together for our kids,” said Justine Knight, Ansbach Elementary parent. “The Clap Out showed them they are appreciated and never alone.”

Ansbach Elementary’s Month of the Military Child celebration reaffirmed the school’s commitment to supporting military-connected students through strong partnerships, inclusive events, and a community-wide show of appreciation—reminding students that their courage and resilience are seen, valued, and celebrated year after year.
