ANSBACH, Germany — The annual USAG Ansbach Garrison Tree Lighting ceremony brought families and community members together Dec. 5, 2025, for an evening of holiday music and celebration highlighted by a performance from the Ansbach Elementary School Choir.

The ceremony began at 6 p.m. as attendees gathered beneath the illuminated tree to mark the start of the holiday season. Fifty-six students from Ansbach Elementary filled the evening with traditional Christmas songs, joined by a visiting kindergarten choir of 25 students from Sachsen bei Ansbach. The combined performance created a festive atmosphere and reflected the longstanding partnership between the garrison and the local German community.

Before taking the stage, both choirs were treated to refreshments provided by volunteers from the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade. The group prepared hot dogs, pretzels, drinks, cakes and cookies for the young performers. The effort was coordinated by Helga Moser, ensuring students felt welcomed and supported ahead of the performance.

This year marked the third time the two choirs have performed together and the 10th year of leadership for Ansbach Elementary School music teacher Dr. Whitney Mansell. Under her direction, the choir has continued to grow while providing students with opportunities to perform at community events throughout the garrison.

The performance concluded to enthusiastic applause from the crowd, followed by the arrival of Santa Claus, drawing cheers and smiles from children and adults alike.

The tree lighting ceremony once again served as a seasonal gathering point for the USAG Ansbach community, using music and tradition to bring families together in celebration of the holidays.
