Ansbach Elementary School spends the day at the Nuremberg Zoo
NUREMBERG, Germany – Kindergarten through 2nd grade students enjoyed an engaging field trip to Tiergarten Nürnberg on May 8, 2026, combining science learning with cultural awareness of their host country, Germany. The trip provided students with a meaningful opportunity to explore both animal habitats and the local environment.
Located in Nuremberg, Germany, Tiergarten Nürnberg is one of the country’s largest and most respected zoos, set within a natural forest landscape. During the visit, students observed a wide range of animals, including dolphins, bears, and birds, while learning how these animals’ needs are met within carefully designed habitats.
The trip supported DoWEA K–2 science standards by helping students understand that living things need food, water, and space to survive, and that animals depend on their environments. In addition, students gained appreciation for their host nation by experiencing a local educational site and learning how Germany cares for wildlife and conservation.
“This field trip allowed students to connect what they’ve learned in class to the real world while also exploring something special in our host country,” said Dominique Baldonado, Kindergarten Teacher. “It’s important for them to see and appreciate where they live.”
Students were excited to learn in a new environment. “I liked the dolphins because they were swimming,” said Beatrice W., 1st Grade Student. “I want to come back with my family!”
Victoria Viola, Kinder Aide, emphasized the value of both science and cultural learning. “Visiting places like Tiergarten Nürnberg helps students understand not only animals, but also the community and country they are part of while living overseas,” she said.
Throughout the day, students practiced observation skills, asked questions, and discussed what they saw. They also learned the importance of caring for animals and respecting nature, which connects to both U.S. and host nation environmental values.
Overall, the field trip to Tiergarten Nürnberg provided a rich educational experience that combined early science learning with an appreciation of Germany as their host country, helping students build knowledge, curiosity, and global awareness.
