Ansbach Elementary's fifth graders welcome guest readers for Read Across America Week

Read Across America Week at Ansbach Elementary School was an exciting celebration of literacy, bringing together students, educators, and special guests to promote the joy of reading. Anne Rudolph, fifth grade teacher, spearheaded the event, organizing a series of guest readers to visit classrooms and engage with students.
This year, the school partnered with local military police officers, who read to students and shared their personal experiences with reading, both as children and adults. Their participation emphasized the importance of literacy and offered a unique opportunity for students to connect with role models in the community.
During the visit, the officers read aloud from a variety of books, captivating students with their expressive storytelling. They also took time to ask each student about their reading habits, fostering an open, interactive dialogue about the joys of reading.
The MPs also brought along childhood favorites like “Rosie and the Rustler” as well as popular titles such as “Harry Potter.” They carefully selected passages, bringing the stories to life with engaging storytelling techniques that captivated the students’ imaginations.
After the readings, the officers shared their own reading habits, discussing the significant role books have played throughout their lives and careers. This conversation inspired students to reflect on how they can develop their own reading habits.
By involving the military police in this year’s celebration, the fifth grade team not only fostered a love for reading but also strengthened the bond between the school and the broader community. The event was a resounding success, leaving students inspired and excited about the power of reading.
